Another week gone by and another week full of action. For Class 2A there was plenty of good action which included the top ten. There were several rollercoasters along the way as one of the top ten went below .500 for their week three record. Overall, the 2A top ten went a combined 36-14 and with the exception of two teams, most of the teams outscored their week three opponents. The total scoring efforts once again favored the top ten in 2A as they outscored opponents 404-208. It certainly was an interesting week, so lets find out how it impacted our Victory Mounds Top Ten Team Rankings heading into week four.
1.) Van Meter (5-0)

The top-ranked Bulldogs once again hold onto the crown as they kept their record unblemished through week three. They posted up the most runs scored by any team across the week, outscoring their opponents 74-17. This is one of the more dominant teams in the class and it’s likely that they will stay at the top spot for quite some time.
2.) ELC (3-2)

Despite a two loss week, the Midgets have been one of the more consistent teams among the Class 2A ranks. The team has had some big wins over the first three weeks, including a 3-0 over previously top-ranked 1A Newman Catholic as well as fellow 1A top ten Kingsley-Pierson 5-3. They rest second in RBI and third in stolen bases across the Class 2A landscape. They are currently pacing the class in strikeouts while holding opposing bats to a mere .153 average.
3.) Dike-New Hartford (5-0)

It was another perfect week for Dike-New Hartford, going 5-0 while outscoring their opponents 53-12. They now rest as one of just four Class 2A squads without a loss on the season so far. They’ve posted a run differential yet again in the positive realm, now +6.5 heading into week four of action. The Wolverines have shown as much patience as anything else as the team has struck out just 45 times this season, fourth-best among all Class 2A squads.
4.) Underwood (3-1)

It’s been a good start to the season for Underwood who comes into week four as a top five program in 2A. This comes after three strong victories in week three, including a massive 12-1 win over 2A’s Kuemper Catholic. The Eagles have been averaging just over nine runs per game while giving up a shade under three, one of the better marks amid any Class 2A squad.
5.) West Marshall (4-1)

An impressive win over Don Bosco highlighted West Marshall’s 4-1 record across week three. The Trojans outscored their week three opponents overall by a 36-15 margin, sporting a run differential of +3.9 in the process. Their defense has been stellar as well, allowing the second-fewest hits (34) across any 2A program and limiting 2A bats to a class-best .121 average.
6.) Mid-Prairie (3-1)

Another strong week for Mid-Prairie who posted three victories and just one loss through week three of action. They did manage to outscore opponents once again, doing so by a 26-12 margin across week three. With a .974 fielding percentage, the Golden Hawks have proven to be just as sound defensively as they are offensively.
7.) Cherokee Washington (6-0)

Outscoring their week three opponents 64-13, the Cherokee Washington baseball team went unblemished and found their way back into the top ten. The Braves had an impressive 5-2 over second-ranked ELC en route to the perfect 6-0 week. They’ve held opposing bats to a .148 average which ranks top-10 across the Class 2A scene.
8.) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (4-1)

Another newcomer to the top ten rankings, the Rockets have been really hard to pass by as they sit as one of just seven teams in the class with double-digit victories under their belts. In terms of week three action, they went a solid 4-1 with the lone loss coming to Class 1A juggernaut in Kee. Other than that, EBF has outscored opponents 22-9 across the third week of play. Their 86 RBI ranks fourth among Class 2A ball clubs while their 112 runs scored ranks fifth-best.
9.) Beckman Catholic (4-0)

Through arguably one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A, Beckman Catholic has performed quite well and with a 4-0 mark across week three, once again rests squarely in the top ten. The Trailblazers outscored their opponents 40-23 during that undefeated stretch that has now given them an 8-5 record overall. They’ve proven their a good hitting team with 115 total hits (5th best in Class 2A) with a total base count of 152.
10.) Williamsburg (3-2)

Another tough slate of games for Williamsburg, yet the team came out of week three’s action with a 3-2 record. They outscored their opponents 36-21. That includes wins over 3A’s Solon and Mount Vernon.
Honorable Mention: Des Moines Christian (10-2), Jesup (5-2), Williamsburg (8-6), Columbus Catholic (6-4), Kuemper Catholic (7-3), Clarinda.
