What a week it was for the Class 2A scene in high school baseball. Overall, the top 10 in 2A did what they needed to do, sporting a combined 22-12 record. They outscored opponents by a 210-158 margin. There were some shakeups that will occur within the rankings and some teams found themselves outside the top ten looking in. With that said, lets dive into Class 2A’s top-ten team rankings, presented by Victory Mounds.

1.) Van Meter (8-0)

It’s no wonder why you see the Bulldogs of Van Meter in the top spot. Nothing negative for coach Baumhover’s squad as they sport a +10.9 run differential across a 5-0 record. The lead all of Class 2A in batting average (.394) while 40 total bases ahead of second place at 140 total bases on the season so far. The Bulldogs also pace 2A in hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI.

2.) Pella Christian (3-0)

What a week it was for Pella Christian, who yields the stingiest strength of schedule across the Class 2A ranks. That includes a win over Class 4A’s Norwalk and a massive 15-2 route over Des Moines Christian. They’ve allowed an average of just 2.3 runs per game while averaging 8.0 runs a game offensively.

3.) Estherville Lincoln Central (8-0)

Few teams are hotter right now than the ELC Midgets through two plus weeks of action. They’ve averaged just over nine runs per contest and had a big start to week three. As for week two, ELC went an undefeated 4-0 while giving up just one run.

4.) Des Moines Christian (5-1)

Despite the 13 run loss to Pella Christian, the Lions of Des Moines Christian did manage to outscore their opponents 19-4 up to that point. The Lions have been a top-ten squad the last few seasons and look to continue that trend here through two weeks of action.

5.) Kuemper Catholic (4-1)

It was a strong week for Kuemper Catholic through the second week of action which included big victories over Class 3A’s Webster City along with previously ranked Coon Rapids-Bayard and current ranked Kingsley-Pierson. The Knights sport a run differential a shade below 4.0 and sport a .328 team average complete with 54 total bases and 33 RBI.

6.) Dike-New Hartford (5-0)

Their first time entering the top ten rankings, Dike-New Hartford went unblemished on the week, sporting a +5.0 run differential. The team is batting .333 with 20 RBI overall through two weeks worth of action. Wapsie Valley, Columbus Catholic, and and Union Community all fell to the Wolverines in week two action.

7.) Mid-Prairie (3-1)

Along with their victory over 4A’s Muscatine, Mid-Prairie added big wins over Williamsburg, Wilton, and Fairfield. Their lone blemish came in a 1-0 defeat to West Branch. Overall, sporting a run differential of +3.2, the Golden Hawks are currently resting at over 20 RBI through two weeks.

8.) West Marshall (6-4)

A strong offensive output in week two for West Marshall who outscored opponents 21-2. That included two blowout victories and a narrow 1-0 loss to 3A’s fifth-ranked Grinnell. They are tied for fourth in RBI with 50 upon the heels of 58 total hits for the season.

9.) Beckman Catholic (4-5)

What a week two it was overall for Class 2A. That included Beckman Catholic’s tough schedule where they wen 2-3 on the week against tome very tough squads. It was a slate against top ranked 3A squad Wahlert Catholic, Center Point Urbana, Union Community, and Don Bosco. The losses for Beckman Catholic included the Golden Eagles, the Dons, and more. Overall, The Blazers have averaged just over six runs per contest.

10.) Williamsburg (6-5)

The Raiders went up against a very tough schedule in week two which included Mid-Prairie, Center Point Urbana, Durant, and South Tama. Overall, Williamsburg went 3-3 with victories over Durant and South Tama while losing out on the double-header with Center Point Urbana and a single game loss against Mid-Prairie.

Top-15: Underwood, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Mediapolis, Cherokee Washington, Columbus Catholic.
